Taughboyne Church

Taughboyne Parish Church takes its name from the Irish, Teach Baithin, or House of Baithin. A cousin of St. Columbcille, Baithin founded the monastery in the Lagan Valley around 560AD.  The old monastic church, in a state of ruin, was restored in 1627. This, however, was only after an attempt to build a new church in the nearby town of St Johnston had failed.

Like most parish churches in Donegal, they contain the graves, not just of members of the Anglican Church, but also many Catholics and Presbyterians, as the Penal Laws forbade anyone but an Episcopalian minister from performing these temporal services.
